Seminar Descriptions

Smart Gardening to Deter Deer: Using Barriers

MSU Extension brings you science-based solutions to help make smart choices in your own backyard. Protecting your garden from white-tailed deer is key in most areas of Michigan. We’ll explore strategies to keep deer from damaging your beloved garden plants using physical barriers.

Smart Gardening to Deter Deer: Using Repellents

Part 2 of MSU Extension’s science-based solutions for deterring deer damage. This presentation will focus on protecting new plantings of trees and other ornamental plants by using a mix of proven repellents and deterrents like sprays or granular products that impact taste and smell, along with other tactics that can help you manage deer browsing.

Grazyna Cumming

Seminar Title: Nitchy to Normal: Natural, Native Gardening for Everyone

Bio: Grazyna Cumming started gardening at a young age alongside her parents in the unforgiving soil of Western Africa. After giving her first plant related presentation on how to grow a banana plantation in 6th grade and being met with blank stares she realized there was a strong need for more education on plants and perhaps knowing your audience. She has since learned a few more things about plants mostly by killing many of them. She has tried to absorb as much as possible through the Extension Master Gardner and Master Composter training and generally hanging around smart older people.
